Acne is a constant worry, particularly for teenage girls, as it sprouts up suddenly and its scars stay long after the acne is gone. Irrespective of your dislike for it, acne occurs during the teenage years of almost everyone and a lot of effort is required for fighting these ugly looking marks and checking them from reappearing.
Acne is caused due to a reaction between bacteria and sebum released by the glands found in skin, giving rise to an infection. As the infection starts to heal, collagen, which is a protein, is produced in the inner layer of the skin. On the level of collagen going below normal, tiny depressions develop on the skin and on its amount being too high, distinct protrusions appear. Acne scars develop in both these cases. Adolescents usually suffer a lot more than others as the amount of hormones increase rapidly at the time of puberty causing increased release of sebum.
Among the typical reasons of acne infection are use of cosmetics that are not compatible with the type of skin, taking contraceptive pills, consumption of medicinal drugs, and genetic reasons. Certain lifestyle factors like stress, improper diet, and living in a polluted locality can also lead to acne. But as against what most people believe, scientists have not found any relation between oily food and acne.
Although a number of lotions and herbal products are sold in the market to deal with acne, it is better to take medical help if the problem aggravates or keeps on recurring. It is also advisable not to poke the acne with sharp- edged objects or to press it as it makes the acne get worse.
A growing number of people are also resorting to cosmetic treatments to remove acne scars and to regain a spotless skin. In addition to surgery and laser treatment that are two of the most effective cures in making acne scars disappear, there are numerous other innovative therapies too. You should take suggestions from a reputed skin specialist who would be able to identify your skin type and suggest a proper remedy accordingly.
